Art Zone Field Trip – Ahmed Al Maadheed Exhibition

On Sunday 24th of September the students of Art Zone ECA visited the W Hotel in West Bay to see the current exhibition of Ahmed Al Maadheed, the artist behind the well known portrait ‘Tamim Al Majd‘. The exhibition is on display on the 29th floor of the W hotel, and our students enjoyed the amazing views of Doha city as well as the variety of artworks on display.

Our wonderful art students spent some time exploring the exhibition and looking at many different paintings created by Ahmed Al Maadheed. Most of the paintings are inspired by the artist’s environment and included portraits of Qatari people of importance, native animals such as camels, horses and falcons, and landscapes of scenes from Qatar. The students then selected their favourite painting and produced some fantastic sketches.

Much to the surprise and excitement of the students, the artist himself arrived to the exhibition to meet us. Ahmed spoke to us about his development as an artist and shared some information about the background behind his paintings. He was delighted to answer questions from all of our students and encouraged them to believe in themselves in order to improve further as artists. He gave the students (and teachers!) ‘Tamim Al Majd’ postcards, showed us clips of an animation he created and even drew a personalised cartoon in one of our student’s notebooks!

It was a fantastic afternoon, and I look forward to sharing pictures of the artworks our students will make inspired by this visit. Take a look at the gallery below to see some more photographs!
