Art in Isolation

‘Art in Isolation’ is a digital art exhibition of artwork made by the PYP students of SEK International School Qatar from Preschool 3 to Grade 5. The artworks were made between April and May 2020.

On Tuesday March 10th 2020, as per government directives in Qatar, our school doors were closed until further notice.

At first, I was concerned about how the creativity, collaboration and action of the art class could continue in online learning, but as always, our students amazed me with their courage, adaptability, creativity and motivation, and in no time, their homes became their art studios.

Thinking about how ‘Art is an expressive tool’ and ‘Art is connected to the real world’, we decided to put together this digital art exhibition as a visual time capsule of this period in our lives.

Every student from Preschool 3 to Grade 5 was invited to take part. Students were asked to create an artwork that expressed their feelings or experiences during this quarantine ‘stay at home’ period due to Covid 19. Their response was incredible with students producing a huge variety of unique and thoughtful artworks including clay sculptures, drawings, paintings, cardboard art, collage and photography.

Our PYP art students have proved that although we are ‘isolated’, we can come together with art!

Please take your time looking through the gallery below to see their artworks.
