So What Do You Do In Art?

This week SEK-Qatar has been welcoming families in for parent meetings. It’s a time for teachers and parents to communicate about their student’s progress. Specialists are also available to talk to parents about their student’s academic experience. Parents view Art (as a subject) from a variety of backgrounds. Some remember it fondly, others as a distant memory from their primary school days, and still others may not have had an academic art experience at all. At SEK-Qatar, Visual Art is an essential part of the curriculum because the concepts and skills taught in and through art translate to other subjects and positively impact how students interpret the world. Please take a moment to watch this video that touches on what we do in Art and why art is so important for your child’s development.

Hello, my name is (Ms.) Catherine and I am the Art teacher at SEK Qatar. Once upon a time I received my Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While I was in school, I had the amazing opportunity to spend a semester studying art in Italy. Now I am an Art teacher and I have worked in the US, South Africa, and Qatar. When I'm not busy finding lesson ideas on Pinterest I like going desert driving (my husband does the driving), exploring in the souq, and trying new restaurants in Doha. I think an art education is essential to academic success for students and I am very proud to teach at one of the schools in Doha with a dedicated Art program!
