Art around the world – a Grade 3 adventure!

After a whole term of exploring the work of different artists and art movements around the world, grade 3 students have completed their art passports! At the beginning of the unit, students learned about Chinese artist Shen Zhou and his style of artwork; Chinese Brush Painting. They also analysed the work of Claude Monet and the Impressionist art movement, followed by Pablo Picasso and the Cubist style. They completed their art passports with a trip to Australia, exploring Aboriginal paintings.

Throughout the unit, students learned a lot about analysis of an artwork. They used questioning to derive facts and concepts behind paintings, and learned how to draw meaning through careful observation. Before forming an opinion on an artwork, they have learned to consider what shapes the artist’s perspective. Following an exploration of a new art movement, each student was given the opportunity to create their own series of paintings, inspired by each of the work of the artists that they studied. This was a great opportunity for them to connect their own imaginations with their new learning.

Their completed passports are on display outside the art room and are drawing lots of attention from passersby. The grade 3 students should be very proud of the paintings they have created!
