Grade 5 become graphic designers!

Grade 5 students are in the middle of their Unit of Inquiry ‘Event Organisation’. In Visual Arts, students have been exploring the role of Graphic Design in advertising an event. Each student is designing and creating a poster for an event in response to a theme of their choice, and when it is completed they will try to use the poster to persuade their classmates to attend their event – a grade 5 sales pitch!  I’m looking forward to seeing their finished designs, which I’m sure will successfully communicate a message visually through use of the design principles colour, layout, size and typography.

Grade 5 task:

In our lessons this week we have been exploring the work of graphic designer Chris Labrooy, who has designed posters for companies such as XBOX, Nike and Citroen using fun, creative and clever typography. The students really enjoyed discussing his work in class.

As an extended learning task, I would like all grade 5 students to follow the link to his website and look and some more examples. Then, I would like you to pick your favourite Chris Labrooy typography design. Leave a comment below telling me which one you have chosen, and what you like about it. I can’t wait to read them!
