Fashion for the Future!

Term 1 saw the art room become a fashion design studio once a week for our ECA, ‘Fashion for the Future’! In the club, students entered the world of fashion by designing a hat and creating it from recycled materials only. They learned about different and creative ways of using materials to produce something they designed themselves, while developing awareness of caring for the environment.

We looked at the designs of contemporary milliner Philip Treacy for inspiration, and the students then did drawings of their ideas. Then came the material exploration. Each student gathered some recycled materials from home, or rummaged through the boxes of pre-loved materials in the art room, and began to explore different ways of working with material to create their design.

The students showed fantastic enthusiasm and dedication, and their very unique, colourful and contemporary designs reflect this. I think there are definitely some future fashion designers here at SEK!

Please take a look at the video below, a celebration of all that the students achieved during Fashion for the Future ECA – Enjoy!
